Since the summer semester 2019, the MUK has been offering regular students (Bachelor's and Master's) the opportunity to complete a funded internship (work placement, traineeship) abroad in an enterprise, a research institute, an organisation or any other relevant workplace within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. There are two options for this:
Internship abroad during studies (Student internship)
Internship abroad for recent graduates (Postgraduate internship)
Regular students of MUK can do one ore more voluntary student internships within the Erasmus+ programme in each study cycle (i.e. Bachelor and Master). It is recommended not to do a student internship before the third semester.
1. Look for an internship: students look for an internship on their own. Eligible institutions can be any organisation in the public/private sector, regardless of size, legal form or business area, which is entrepreneurially active in the programme countries and whose professional focus has a demonstrable link to the study programme. Excluded are: EU institutions, organisations managing EU programmes, EU parliamentarians or private indivuduals. The traineeship must be a full-time internship (in schools to the extent of a full teaching commitment) and cannot take place at several institutions at the same time. If you are unsure, please contact the National Agency. The head of department must also confirm on the application form whether the internship is suitable.
2. Programme countries: 27 EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, United Kingdom and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Mobilities to the country of origin are possible in principle, but have the lowest priority. Stays in the country in which students usually reside are excluded. Students who have their centre of life in a neighbouring country and come to Austria only for study purposes (cross-border commuters) cannot be funded for an Erasmus+ stay in the country of residence concerned.
3. Duration of stay: at least 2 whole months up to a maximum of 12 months. Attention: Eligibility period is reduced if there has already been a student stay in the study cycle.
4. Application: at least 2 months BEFORE the start of the internship. Required documents:
• Application form
• Learning Agreement for Traineeship
• Confirmation of internship place from the internship provider
5. Learning Agreement for Traineeship: The contents of the internship (the knowledge, skills and competences to be acquired) are defined in the Learning Agreement together with the head of department. Afterwards it has to be signed and stamped by you, the head of department, the Erasmus coordinator of MUK as well as the internship provider. The Learning Agreement also specifies for which courses (Electives) and to which ECTS extent (min. 3 ECTS per month) the internship will be credited.
6. Crediting of the internship: 3 ECTS per month can be credited as fee electives. Crediting as a compulsory course is not possible! If desired, the student internship can also be printed in the Diploma Supplement - please discuss this with the Director of Studies during the recognition process after the internship. The Internship Certificate which you will receive from the internship provider, serves as proof of the credit.
7. Financial Support: the financial support of Erasmus+ internships is based on the different living costs in the destination countries (620,-- to 670,-- EUR per month). If you receive subsidies, please clarify your entitlement with the respective authorities.
8. Tuition fee: No tuition fee has to be paid in the semester in which the internship is completed. The ÖH-fee has to be paid in any case.
9. Insurance cover: Erasmus+ does not automatically provide insurance cover. Accident and liability insurance must be taken out by the student! First and foremost, clarify the insurance coverage with the internship provider. Furthermore, find out from your insurance company(ies) about your insurance cover during your stay aborad. The ÖH can also help you with insurance. Sometimes credit cards, for example, also offer insurance cover.
10. Language skills: Within the framework of Erasmus+, a compulsory language assessment must be carried out to determine your language skills before and after your stay abroad. In the case of low knowledge, an online language course must also be completed (OLS). In principle, a command of the national language at level B1 (CEF) is recommended.
