Preparatory Course Dance/Pre-College Dance

The four-year Pre-College Dance is aimed at exceptionally talented dancers aged 14+ whose career goal is contemporary dance. Applicants aged 13-17 can apply for a place on the study programme. The aim is to provide comprehensive dance-artistic preparation for a BA degree in dance or dance education at the MUK or another institution. The Pre-College Dance can also be the starting point for other studies in the field of Performing Arts.

The study programme includes lessons in both contemporary and classical dance and, with three performance levels, allows students to be graded according to their personal dance level. Various techniques are taught in contemporary dance, including improvisation, urban dance, floor work and dance acrobatics. Rehearsals for the Pre-College Dance performances are developed in the Composition and Creation classes in a joint process between teachers and students. Further teaching content includes rhythmics, historical dance, training, anatomy, nutritional information and familiarisation with professional practice.

The Pre-College Dance promotes the development of artistic independence and creativity and supports the personal development of young dancers in an appreciative and cosmopolitan working atmosphere, thus creating the conditions for experiencing social diversity and solidarity.

Classes take place Monday to Friday mornings from 8:30—12:15.

School-leaving qualification / Matura

This is the only opportunity in Austria to complete a university pre-college and school-graduation certificate in a joint programme (BG & BRG Boerhaavegasse, 1030 Wien with optional boarding). More information at www.boerhaavegasse.at

The current preparatory course Dance will continue until the 2026/27 academic year for the 12—15 age group and will no longer be offered after that.
