Before registering for the entrance exam, please make sure that you have not missed the registration deadline and that the exam dates have already been published. All dates can be found here.
The regular entrance exams take place annually between January and April. The study programmes start with the following winter semester.
Only applicants for the academic diploma course, Certificate of Performance (CoP), can apply at any time and arrange individual exam dates. Details can be found here.
In order to hand in a valid application you have to apply online and transfer the EUR 50.- application fee.
Incurred expenses with your application cannot be reimbursed.
Step 1: Creation of an account
Please register online via the information system MUKonline under the following link in order to create an account: Creation of an account
Your basic data and your e-mail address are required. Please stick to the spelling on your ID card/passport. If you do not have an Austrian social security number or martrikel number, you can leave these fields blank. After having received the confirmation email and activating the link, you can log in to your MUKonline account to register for the exams and to submit and manage your applications.
Step 2: Application
Please note that no general university entrance qualification (Matura, Abitur, high school diploma) is required for an application as well as a study program at the MUK.
Step 3: Administration
You can use "Applications" to view the applications you have already submitted and track the progress of your application. Few days prior the exam, please make sure that all documents and the exam fee have been set to "ok".
Only complete applications within the deadline as well as the timely receipt of the entrance exam fee entitle the applicant to take the entrance exam. (Please note that any transfer fees are to be paid by sender!).
After registration and fulfillment of all admission requirements you will be informed by e-mail one week before the scheduled date about the exact audition dates. Please note, that there can also be last-minute modifications. Be sure to check your e-mails the day before your exam.
In case of video applications, you will be informed about the examination result and, if applicable, about an invitation to the on-site audition via e-mail in due time.
Proof of German language proficiency:
All Bachelor or Master applicants whose native language is not German have to prove their knowledge of German. A proof of German proficiency is needed at enrolment. It is not necessary to have a German certificate to apply for the entrance exam. More information can be found here.
If you have a “third country” nationality (non-EU or EEA state), you can obtain detailed information about your visa under www.oead.at
Information about entry conditions and visa procedure can be obtained from the Austrian authority responsible for your home country. If you require an official confirmation from our university for your entry (only if you cannot enter without a visa), please send an e-mail to the following address: email@example.com
After having received your complete application (with all supporting documents including application fee) we will send you the confirmation.
ATTENTION: Regulations on COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2):
Please note the valid regulations (e.g. access regulations) for entrance exams in presence (see current safety concept of the MUK). Further regulations (e.g. PCR test obligation) can be decided. Affected applicants will be informed accordingly.
Applicants who pass the entrance examination and receive a place at the university must present a valid vaccination certificate before signing the admission contract. This must comply with the applicable legal regulations in Austria. Proof of vaccination protection is required in order to maintain teaching activities and to be able to realise artistic projects. With the signing of the admission contract, the applicants undertake to ensure that they continue to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2).

Applications for studying at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna can be submitted online at anytime; they will be reserved for the next admission period. Applications submitted after the application deadline can no longer be considered for the subsequent audition date.
