Insignias of the rector’s office

Rector’s Chain

Another ceremonial insignia is the rector’s chain, which is also worn by the rector at academic ceremonies. The design of the rector’s chain comes from young designer Julia Obermüller, student of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, who won an internal competition in 2015. The central element of this is the geographical form of the City of Vienna with sound waves emanating from its centre to both sides. The waves are symbolic of the students of the MUK, who conquer the world of music and art after completing their training. At the same time, they symbolise sound as a connecting element of all the university’s degree courses. The complex design was implemented in gold-plated silver by the long-standing Viennese jeweller A. E. Köchert.

Robes

The rector’s office of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna showcases its own purpose-made, festive robes during the annual academic ceremony. The exclusive festive robes with the embroidered logo of the MUK were created in collaboration with the Wien-Hetzendorf Fashion School in 2015. During an internal competition, the rector’s office was impressed by the design by student Melanie Kapeller. The Fashion School then handmade the made-to-measure robes for the rectors and deans.
