Internationality and (non-)European cooperation are defined as core areas of the MUK’s mission statement. Participation in EU educational programmes makes a significant contribution to this, meaning the MUK has been able to conclude approx. 100 agreements with partner institutions as part of the lifelong learning programme (2007-2013) and realise over 330 student and lecturer exchanges and countless funded EU projects.
For this reason, the MUK applied to participate in the new EU educational programme Erasmus+ (2014-2020) and obtained the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education from the European Commission. This allows the MUK to organise exchanges/projects etc with the most renowned music and art colleges as part of Erasmus+ and to use all the opportunities of this education programme. The focus of these exchanges/projects etc is defined in the Internationalisation Strategy and formulated in the Policy Statement of the Erasmus Charter.
Active membership in the most important university networks in the field of art and music, the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC) and the European League of Instituts of the Arts (ELIA), guarantee networking and positioning on an international level for the MUK, creating comparability, quality assurance and regular knowledge exchanges.
The Bologna process and the criteria for the European Higher Education Area are fully implemented at the MUK. The organisation of studies is characterised by student-centred and learning-focussed four-year bachelor’s degrees and two-year master’s degree. The ECTS credit system has been established, which credits courses completed overseas in accordance with the “no loss of progress” principle.
