The entrance examination is divided in several sections. You will need to pass the preceding part before moving forward to the next. The entrance examination is here to check the suitability of the candidates with regards to physical, technical, creative, musical and rhythmical aptitudes.
It is recommended to enclose a current electrocardiogram (ECG) with the application documents.
Exam content:
1st round:
Examination of dance, artistic and physical aptitude
○ Classical Dance (60 min)
○ Contemporary Dance (60 min)
Interim report
2nd round:
Examination of artistic and creative aptitude
○ Improvisation (60 min)
○ Choreographic rehearsal (60 min)
Interim report
3rd round:
○ Suitability interview
The aptitude of the candidate for the artistic study programme will be checked in an individual interview with the examination board based on the candidate's motivational letter. (10 min)
○ Anatomical examination
Examination of the candidate's physical aptitude. (spinal flexibility, intact muscle and joint function, healthy cardiovascular system, leg axis)
○ Presentation of an own choreography (3-5 min)

The minimum age for the Pre-College Dance is 14 years (as of the deadline: start of the academic year 1st September)
Please note: The entrance examination for the preparatory course Dance only takes place for the 3rd—4th year of the preparatory course. This means that the minimum age is 12 years and applicants must already be in 6th grade or higher.

○ Rhythmics and musical qualifications

2nd round Preparatory Course Dance:
Candidates aged 11 and up need previous knowledge, which is examined in both a classical and contemporary training (starting at age 13) for particular age groups.
2nd round Pre-College Dance:
For applicants, previous knowledge of contemporary and/or classical dance or another dance style is required. These will be tested in training sessions. The examination board conducts interviews with the applicants based on their submitted letters of motivation.

Applications for studying at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna can be submitted online at anytime; they will be reserved for the next admission period. Applications submitted after the application deadline can no longer be considered for the subsequent audition date.
