Kreativ.Lab — An interdisciplinary project of the MUK

Dancing, singing, acting

The KreativLab is an interdisciplinary project of the Faculty of Performing Arts at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK). As part of the newly created format, students have the opportunity to come together in interdisciplinary ensembles from the fields of dancing, singing and acting. Together they dedicate themselves intensively to interdisciplinary work, collaboration, the mutual exchange of practical experience and its questioning as well as the exploration of new artistic forms. The synergy effects should lead to results that are enriching and surprising for all participants.

Based on the quote It takes two flints to make a fire. (Louisa May Alcott), the students develop their own artistic projects based exclusively on their own creations. However, existing material (texts, musical works, compositions, etc.) can be used to create something new.

After the first trial and presentation at the MUK last year, the artistic results will be shown for the first time this year as a parcours in the premises of the Theater am Werk on Petersplatz. Two performance runs are planned for Fri, 22 December 2023 at 11:00—14:00 and 15:00—18:00.

Launched in 2022, the Kreativ Lab took place in December 2022 on the premises of the Bräunerstrasse site. The initial quote/topic was:
There was never any more inception than there is now,
Nor any more youth or age than there is now,
And will never be any more perfection than there is now,
Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.
Urge and urge and urge,
Always the procreant urge of the world.

(excerpt from Walt Whitman‛s Song of Myself)
