Masterclass Trompete mit Timur Martynov

Timur Martynov was born in Saint Petersburg in 1979 in a family of musicians. At the age of eight he started to study trumpet under Georgy Kaminsky and continued his studies at the St-Petersburg State Conservatory under Prof. Yuri Bolshiyanov. He then got the internship at the Luxemburg Conservatory of Music, where he studied under professors like Malte Burba, Jouko Harjanne, Charles Consbruck and Roman Zaremba. He is a winner of numerous Russian and International competitions, including the world famous Maurice Andre competition (France), the International Raimo Sarmas Competition (Finland) and the Prague Spring Int. Competition (Czech Republic).
When he was sixteen years old Timur made his debut as an orchestra member at the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra chaired by his father Ravil Martynov, former student of Leo Ginsburg and then the Professor of Conducting at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. From 2003 until 2005 he was the principal trumpet player at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia conducted by Vladimir Spivakov. Later in 2005 he was invited by Theodor Currentzis to work at the Novosibirsk Theatre of the Opera and Ballet as a soloist and principal trumpet player of the symphony orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra “musicAeterna”.
From 2007 till present Timur Martynov is a principal trumpet and soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra directed by Maestro Valery Gergiev.
During his career Timur has given performances at many prestigious venues around the world and participated in various festivals like BBC Proms (Great Britain), Salzburg Music Festival (Austria), Beethoven Festival (Germany), “Dyagilev Festival”, “White Nights Stars” and “The Easter Festival” (Russia). Recording of his solo trumpet part of the Mahler’s Fifth Symphony at the BBC Proms 2010 with the World Symphony Orchestra continues to be one of the most remarkable interpretations nowadays.
In 2012 the ‘Mariinsky’ label released The First Concerto of D.D. Shostakovich for piano, solo trumpet and orchestra performed by Denis Matsuev, Timur Martynov and the Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. In 2018 ‘Sony Classical’ released a disc of Gustav Mahler’s Sixth Symphony where he performed as a principal trumpeter of the Dyagilev Festival Orchestra ‘musicaAeterna’ conducted by Theodore Currentzis.
Timur Martynov gives various masterclasses and workshops in Russia and abroad, being the successor of all great schools. From 2019 he is teaching at the Special music school of the St. Petersburg State Concervatory and at the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Concervatory as well.
From 2018 Timur Martynov is the ‘Schagerl Artist’.
