Young artists up to a maximum of 26 years of age who are experienced in performing on stage in ensembles and up to 28 years of age for vocal performances are invited to take part in Gradus ad Parnassum. They must be in possession of Austrian citizenship or come from South Tyrol or have had their normal residence in Austria for at least 3 years. Young Austrians, South Tyroleans, young people with their permanent residence in Austria for at least the last 3 years and students from overseas Austrian schools are invited to participate in Prima la Musica. The competition is held on a state and national level. The national competition takes place in a different Federal state each year, depending on the instrument groups. The best participants of the regional competitions are then invited to the national competition.
Dates (annually): Regional competitions are all held in February / March, national competition in May / June (the Federal state changes each year)

Musica Juventutis is looking for the next generation of young Austrian musical talent (soloists aged up to 20, ensembles aged up to 26 years). As part of Musica Juventutis, the 12 best from a strict, annual audition in the Konzerthaus in Vienna will receive the chance to play in front of the general public as well as critics and professionals. Working together with the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation), the young performers are put on show throughout the whole of Austria. The programme Intrada on Ö1 regularly transmits excerpts from the concerts.

In 1999, the Hildegard Zadek Foundation initiated a biennial international vocal competition in order to promote the development of young singers. Since its inception the emphasis has been on contemporary music.
