Piotr Kowal – pianist, chamber musician, and educator. A graduate of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, where he studied piano under Professor Andrzej Pikul. In 2018, he earned his doctoral degree with a dissertation devoted to the interpretation of Beethoven's late sonatas, including the monumental Sonata in B-flat major op. 106 “Hammerklavier”. In 2025, he obtained his postdoctoral degree (habilitation).
His interpretations have been heard on international stages in countries such as Austria, China, Spain, Israel, Germany, the United States, Slovakia, and Italy. In 2025, he undertook his second concert tour in the USA, performing in cities including New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Mississippi.
Piotr Kowal is a versatile artist, performing both as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles. He has participated in prestigious music festivals such as “Wawel at Dusk” in Kraków and “August of Talents” in Katowice, and has collaborated with the Częstochowa Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Rishon LeZion Orchestra, performing works such as Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto in E-flat major. In 2024, he served as Artistic Director of the “Tyniec Chamber Recitals” Festival and appeared at events including the “Silence” Festival and “Music at the Czartoryski Palace.”
He is a prize-winner of numerous international piano competitions, including the Tadeusz Żmudziński Competition in Kraków and competitions in Israel, Portugal, Singapore, and Vienna. He received a Silver Diploma at the “Musical Eagles” competition for his debut album Bruzdowicz: Works for Piano and Cello, and a Bronze Diploma for the album Aurora, recorded with Czarakcziew/Kowal Duo, dedicated to the music of Jerzy Gablenz.
He has been awarded scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (Creative Scholarship 2022), the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (“Polish Culture Worldwide”), and the Rector of the Academy of Music in Kraków. In 2024, he received the Kraków City President’s Award.
He refined his skills under the guidance of outstanding teachers – he studied at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Professor Konstanze Eickhorst and pursued postgraduate studies with Professor Aquiles Delle Vigne. He also participated in masterclasses led by such figures as Paul Badura-Skoda, Dmitri Bashkirov, Dina Yoffe, Emanuel Krasovsky, and Evgeni Koroliov.
He currently works as an assistant professor at the Department of Piano of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków and has been Head of the Piano Section at the Bronisław Rutkowski State Music School in Kraków since 2018.
