arte4artists art scholarship

The last two years of the pandemic have hit the art scene hard. Exhibitions and concerts were cancelled in rows, musicians and artists were deprived of their livelihood.

In order to support Austria's artists during this time, the arte Hotels created the arte4artists art grant. The starting signal was given in May 2021: All employees of the arte Hotels were called upon to collect kilometres for art — by hiking, jogging, walking or cycling. After a few weeks, the goal of 10,000 km was reached. The collected kilometres will now be converted by arte Hotels into prizes worth € 10,000, which can be won in a competition — in cooperation with the University of Arts Linz and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

Eligibility

All students attending courses and study programmes at the Kunstuniversität Linz as well as students of the study programme Jazz at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien are eligible to participate. Applications are possible with all projects, provided that at least one project member is a student of one of the two universities.

Content of the application

Students who wish to participate must submit 5 sound files (self-performed, but not necessarily original compositions) or 10 pictures (self-painted, drawn or produced in another art form). The submission can be made by sound file or picture in a common file format. Works by third parties are expressly prohibited. The upload must be made via the arte4artists website.

Deadline

Registration is open from 24 October to 31 December 2022 inclusive and exclusively at www.arte4artists.at. All submissions will be evaluated and selected by a jury. The jury result will be announced by 15 February 2022, the winners will be notified by phone or mail.

Jury and evaluation

The submitted projects will be evaluated by a jury. This consists of:

  • Lars Seniuk (Representative of the MUK)
  • Lucie Stahl (Representative of the Kunstuniversität Linz)
  • Alexander Ipp (owner of Ipp Hotels)
  • Michael Frödrich (art representative arte Hotels)
  • Mike Shane
  • Max von Milland

Prizes

Taking part is worthwhile — because the first three places will receive a scholarship in the form of cash prize money:

  • 1st prize: € 2,500
  • 2nd prize: € 1,500
  • 3rd prize: € 1,000

In addition, places 1—3 will each receive an artist's place (event) in one of the five arte hotels including an opening party and overnight accommodation for up to ten people in five double rooms.

THE MUK

The MUK considers itself a progressive university of music and art that creates cultural values in the fields of music, dance, acting and singing. The MUK is the only university owned by the City of Vienna and brings together the best international young talent and outstanding lecturers.
