A competition of the Hugo Breitner Society supporting young talented artists of Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna in collaboration with the Tsuzuki foundation, the Enami foundation, HFP Steuerberater and ORF-Ö1
UNFORTUNATELY, THE FIDELIO COMPETITION COULD NOT TAKE PLACE IN 2020 AND WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2021. Work is underway to resume the competition and further information will be published in due course.
The competition alread takes place annually since 2002 and therefore occupies an important place in the academic year at the Musik and Arts University of the City of Vienna. It provides an opportunitiy for students to prove their artistic, interpretativ, innovative and creative persuasiveness in front of a jury and audience.
The competition provides the possibility to participate in the categories Fidelio.Interpretation or Fidelio.Kreation.
Both categories take place in two rounds: In the preliminary round an internal jury, composed of the head of programmes and teachers of the MUK, nominates the participants. In the main round a high-profile external jury appoints soloists and ensembles for a scholarship of the Hugo Breitner Society and with that concert/presentation by prize winners.
The jury will evaluate the concept and artistic interpretation of representative chamber music works. The final annual presentation takes place at the RadioKulturhaus.
In this category everybody, who presents a self-created, self-composed artistic programme, can apply — and execute this on stage within the frame of the competition. The prize winner will present themselves at the Theater Akzent.
