COVID-19 safety concept for external persons

If you have symptoms or fear you might be ill,
entering the MUK is not permitted.
    Stay home and dial 1450.

The COVID-19 safety concept of the MUK is based on the ordinances and recommendations of the federal ministries and is continuously adapted to the current ordinances, which are followed by all MUK members.

If the protection concept is adhered to and as long as they are not ill, the members of the MUK can use the buildings and infrastructure of the MUK during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking into account the following protective measures.

At the MUK, FFP2 masks are mandatory as soon as more than one person is in a room, as well as in all public areas of the MUK.
Employees who are particularly in need of protection are advised to contact the personnel management (personal@muk.ac.at, +43 1 512 77 47-240) and not to use the MUK premises during the COVID 19 pandemic for the time being. If necessary, special arrangements can be made with Human Resources Management in consultation with the Rectorate.

As recommended in the COVID-19: Guidelines for Safe University Operations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, the rectors of the Austrian music and art universities will coordinate their respective COVID-19 protection concepts with each other.

All measures listed here are subject to changing legal requirements.

1. Corona testing obligation

Only tested, vaccinated or recovered persons will be allowed access to MUK sites. Appropriate proof (e.g. a valid negative Corona test, proof of vaccination or proof of having overcome an illness) must be presented to the porters upon entry. Detailed information can be found here. Please note that self-tests are not accepted as admission tests.

2. Hygiene measures and rules of conduct

Oral and nasal hygiene
At the MUK, FFP2 masks are compulsory as soon as more than one person is in a room, as well as in all public areas of the MUK. When coughing or sneezing, the mouth and nose are covered with bent elbows or a handkerchief.

Hand hygiene
Everyone should wash their hands regularly with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. If hand washing is not possible, hands must be regularly disinfected with hand disinfectant. Hand disinfectants are provided by the MUK in dispensers for this purpose.

Airing rooms
Everyone is responsible for airing the MUK rooms regularly. Airing the rooms every hour for at least 10 minutes is obligatory, as is airing the rooms after every lesson/rehearsal during the entire break until the next lesson/rehearsal. The theatre and podium must be vacated every hour for 10 minutes by all (!) participants; air exchange is done via ventilation systems.

Keep your distance
No handshaking, hugging or kissing is allowed in times of the COVID 19 pandemic. Everyone is responsible for keeping a distance of at least 2 metres when meeting in any way. During artistic practical work with singing, speaking, flute, a distance of 2.5 metres is to be kept.

Room concept
The COVID-19 working group has set a maximum occupancy for all teaching and practice rooms at the MUK. This number is indicated on the doors of the rooms and may not be exceeded under any circumstances.

Lifts are to be used only if absolutely necessary and only individually.

3. Teaching and examinations with external persons

Classes and examinations may be held in presence of external persons provided that the following protective measures are observed:

  • All face-to-face teaching shall take place exclusively by mutual agreement between teachers, students and external persons.
  • Students, teachers and external persons are generally required to wear FFP2 masks.
  • For wind instruments, singing and speaking, additional partition walls are to be used during lessons (partition walls are available in the rooms or from the porters).
  • Rooms must be ventilated every lesson and for at least 10 minutes before each lesson.
  • The complete documentation of attendance by course instructors is mandatory!

4. Study programme specific measures

Heads of study programmes are authorised to prescribe additional safety measures which take into account the circumstances and requirements of the individual study programmes.
Should these fall short of the requirements of this concept, written approval must be obtained in advance.
