Entrance exams for start of studies in winter semester 2024/25:

Programme for the entrance exam

Bachelor's Programme

Wed., 14.02.2024 ­ — Fri., 16.02.2024, 09.00—18.00
Location: (1st round) Room 4.12, 4.21 and 4.22 (Bräunerstraße, 4th floor, 1010 Wien)

The entrance examination is divided in several sections. You will need to pass the preceding part before moving forward to the next. The entrance examination is here to check the suitability of the candidates with regards to physical, technical, creative, musical and rhythmical aptitudes, as well as if the candidates are suitable for a pedagogical profession.
It is recommended to bring a current electrocardiogram (ECG) with you to the entrance examination.

Exam content:

1st round:
Contemporary Dance
Examination of dance and physical aptitude as well as dance qualifications, physical capacity and interpretation of predefined dance sequences. (90 min)
Improvisation
Examination of creative requirements (improvisational tasks), social competence (working in and within groups), physical requirements (handling of stressful situations and pressure to perform) and pedagogical aptitude. (90 min)
○ Rhythmics and musicality
Imitating rhythm in four-tact form, rhythmical question-and-answer tasks, development of movement patterns in eight-tact form, coordination tasks concerning motion and rhythm, reciting of intervals, recognition of musical tempos, rhythmic and melodic hearing, and recognition of musical parameters. (90 min)
Anatomical examination
Examination of the candidate's physical aptitude. (spinal flexibility, intact muscle and joint function, healthy cardiovascular system, leg axis)

Interim report

2nd round:
Suitability interview
The aptitude of the candidate for the artistic study programme and the teaching profession will be checked in an individual interview with the examination board based on the candidate's motivational letter. (10 min)
Final round
Examination tasks concerning contemporary dance, improvisation and rhythm. Each candidate will be in charge of a 10-minute dance-training for a group - free choice of topic, prepared task. (4 hours)

Applications for studying at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna can be submitted online at anytime; they will be reserved for the next admission period. Applications submitted after the application deadline can no longer be considered for the subsequent audition date.
