Arabic vocal and instrumental music possesses a rich heritage rooted in modal nuance (Maqamat), rhythmic complexity (Iqa'at), and vocal poetics. When this tradition interfaces with modern jazz harmony, syncopated funk, and Mediterranean polyrhythms, it opens a vast creative territory for contemporary musicians. Designed specifically for students at MUK Vienna, this 3-hour intensive masterclass provides a hands-on roadmap to navigate between musical cultures without superficial caricature. Students do not simply observe — they analyze real-world case studies, collaboratively deconstruct and re-harmonize a theme, and perform the resulting arrangement live on stage with immediate rhythm-section and phrasing coaching.
