Jan Ostry was born in Prague (Czech Republic) where he studied at the Prague State Conservatory (Prof. F. Malotin). From 1992 he studied at the CNR de Versailles (Prof. Ch. Rayneau and Prof. J. Royer) and from 1996, he was a grantee of the French Government at the CNSM de Lyon, in the class of prof. Ph. Bernold and R. Thuillier, where he was unanimously awarded the First Prize in 1999. In the course of his studies he gained prizes in various interpretation competitions (Concertino Praga, Competition of F.X. Dussek in Prague, Competition of Czech Conservatories). He also visited a number of master classes under the leadership of A. Marion, B. Kuijken, K. Zoeller, J. Zoon and K. Hünteler.As a soloist or a member of chamber ensembles he performed in several countries in Europe and also in various festivals - Young Prague, Mozartiana Iuventus Prague, Concentus Moraviae (with Prague Philharmonia and J. B?lohlávek), Week of Pierre Boulez in Lyon (with P. Boulez), Czech Haydn Festspiele, Czech Season in France 2002, Neuberger Kultutage, Festival of Pierre Boulez in St. Etienne, Festival ORF „Eggenberger Schlosskonzerte“ in Graz, Czech Beethoven’s Festival and others … Jan Ostry recorded CD’s with chamber music of A. Rejcha and J. L. Dusik for the label Studio Matous (won The Critics Prize - Tip Harmonie), flute quartets by J.J.Ryba for Naxos and chamber music of Bach’s sons and complete of Bach’s sonatas for two flutes with H. Schmeiser, for Nimbus Records. Since 2001 he has been regulary teaching at master courses of the European Flute Acadamy in Fiss and from 2003 at the Kulturtage in Neuberg. For season 1999/2000 Jan Ostry was a substitute as the solo-flutist in Orchestre National de Lyon, and for season 2001/2002 as solo-flutist in Den Norske Operaen, in Oslo. In this time, he teaches the flute and chamber music at the State Conservatory in Prague and in Faculty of Arts in University of Ostrava.
